Sean Connery Foundation reveals first £1m grant recipients

Four UK arts organisations have been chosen to receive funding from The Sean Connery Foundation, with grants totalling approximately £1m.

The four grantees are: Glasgow Media Arts Centre (GMAC), Screen Education Edinburgh (SEE), Station House Media Unit, Aberdeen (SHMU), and The Portal Arts.

The funding is aimed at providing training for young people in the film and TV industry and delivering practical assistance across a variety of roles including writing, producing, and acting.

French producer Marianne Slot, known for her collaborations with Lars von Trier, will receive the Raimondo Rezzonico Award at the 76th Locarno Film Festival (August 2-12).

US actor, singer, and activist Harry Belafonte, known for his role in Island In The Sun, has died at the age of 96.

Known as the ‘King of Calypso’, Belafonte made history with his third studio album Calypso (1956) which was said to be the first album by a solo artist to sell more than a million copies in the US and featured the beloved song ‘Day-O’ (The Banana Boat Song).
